Hypnosis is not Magical, Mystical or Supernatural.
At no time ever will you become unconscious or semi-
You will always be aware of what’s happening both to and around you.
You do not go to sleep – you don't have to have your eyes closed.
You can leave the hypnotic state whenever you wish to, as hypnosis is voluntary.
You cannot leave your body nor ‘lose your mind’, are you not ‘possessed’ in any way.
You are in control yourself and not in anybody’s power, nobody can take control of you.
You cannot get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis – this is quite impossible, if you were left in this state you would simply drift into natural sleep or wake up.
Hypnosis is a truly natural state of mind and body which you enter into numerous times a day without you realizing.
Hypnosis is just a psychological tool and no more than that.
You can hypnotise a person against their will, but under hypnosis you cannot normally, make them go against their moral code.
There is no such thing as a ‘hypnotised feeling’, the easiest way to describe it is that: In the short period of time just before you go to sleep -
When asleep you are unable to follow instructions or indeed communicate whereas when hypnotised you are able to follow exact instructions and able to have a full conversation.
Hypnosis is not against Christian beliefs providing that you do not use it for any unscrupulous or immoral purposes.
Hypnosis comes in so many forms but when you take a close look at Hypnotherapy it can be broken down to just two basic forms either:
Suggestion Therapy is basically about being given positive suggestions which will alter the way you think about things, you create the new picture within the mind, so it will change the perspective of how things are viewed in the future, generally the more vivid the picture the better the result will be.
Analytical Therapy is where the therapist searches for the source (Root) of the problem based on the law of 'Cause and Effect'. The cause was some time in the past, at the same time add to this an emotional situation occurring, and then it being hidden away in the subconscious, this is then forgotten about (but not erased!), then often compounded and confirmed later by other experiences. Although you know the resulting Phobia, Compulsive Disorder or whatever the effect is not a rational one, your subconscious cares not a jot as it does not work on rational thoughts but on learnt responses, regardless of whether that response is correct or not, you only know how to react not necessarily why, unfortunately often the effect gets worse as time goes on and the longer it is left unchecked, it is up to the therapist to help identify the Root Cause. Remove the Cause so that the symptom can no longer exist.
HYPNOSIS IS THE ONLY NATURAL METHOD OF CURATIVE TREATMENT.
Unfortunately even after many years of trying to teach these basic truths to the mainstream medical profession they seem unable to learn this. There is the body and the mind you cannot effectively treat one, without treating the other. You must treat them as a whole not as separate unit. Although there are varied methods of inducing hypnosis the method used by most is deep relaxation followed by their chosen version of therapy.
Hypnotherapist's are not G.Ps or surgeons they do not diagnose, prescribe medication nor cut away infected areas, there are very few doctors who either practice hypnosis or indeed even understand it. Hypnosis should be used as a Complementary Therapy and should not be used instead of nor before seeking advice or treatment from your G. P.
Unfortunately hypnosis tends to be the last port of call out of desperation! A lot is expected in the shortest time possible especially when all else has failed, unfortunately for some people, some problems take several sessions to get to the route of the problem, hypnosis can help with a multitude of problems and although some people seem to have wonderful and successful results hypnosis however is not a Miracle Cure. The Mind controls the body and has a very strong influence over it whereas the body has only a small influence over the mind. Hypnotists try to treat the Mind because they know, the mind and body must live together in harmony, you must treat not only the body but also the mind and the emotions.
Treatments
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy have been used to help a vast array of problems, including:
Smoking Cessation and other unwanted habits
IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
Unwarranted Fears and Phobias
Anxiety and Panic attacks and Stress
Confidence and Self Esteem Building
Reactive Depression
Weight Control and various eating disorders
Pain Control and Pain Management
Some Skin Problems
Insomnia and other Sleeping difficulties
Trichotillamania (compulsive hair pulling) and other OCD's
Some areas of Sexual Performance for men and Sexual Enjoyment for women
Test and Examination Nerves.
These are but a few of the problems hypnosis has been used to successfully help correct -
People are generally very surprised when told that the hypnosis used by the stage hypnotist is exactly the same as that used by the therapist. It is the presentation and the way used that makes it appear different.
NLP -
So what is it? NLP is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do. Basically NLP can be thought of as a form of waking hypnosis, it has it's routes in behaviouralism and was introduced by Richard Bandler & John Grinder in the 1970's, they basically, copied Milton Erickson approach to hypnosis and used the link between the way people map their learning through their senses (Neuro), everyday consious awareness (Linguistic) and the responsive behaviour (Programming) all of which are learnt through all their various 'mapping filters'.
